Who Says?

With Labor Day weekend right around the corner I wanted to bring attention to a fashion rule that In my opinion needs to be reevaluated, wearing white after labor day. I started to do some internet research for the sake of my curious mind. I wanted to know where and why this rule came about so I did what any reasonable person would do I googled it & believe it or not I could not find the source of this rule.

One of the reasons that I found that made sense was temperature.  This one is kind of obvious

not much explaining to do. It’s safe to say that we know that white is a cool color and can be worn in the summer to keep us feeling fresh so clearly people tend not refrain from wearing dark colors in the summer simply because they attract sunlight.

Pretty reasonable right? Well some people do not agree. Another explanation that I found had to do with social class, this goes as far back as the 1920’s. We’re all familiar with Resort collections right? (If not click here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruise_collection)  well if you had money to go away for the summer to say perhaps a resort you would be considered to be of a higher class and therefore once you returned from your summer vacation it would be appalling to be seen in white ha ha or so imagine.

Regardless of the reasoning behind it (which I don’t think has any logic) or who decided to implement it, I believe white can be worn gracefully all year round, don’t believe look for yourself.

One size does not fit all

Do you ever see a trend or a look that you absolutely love and can’t wait to try? Well if you have that’s how I felt about the maxi skirt trend. Let me begin my saying that I love maxi dresses they are my go to weekend look especially in the summer time. So when I saw the maxi skirts popping up everywhere I was kind of excited. Every time I went to the store I kept an eye out for a skirt that I liked I found the one pictured below at target. I had a hard time with the way it fit my reg. size of M was way too big and surprisingly so was the S (that should have been my sign not to buy) but I bought it in spite of the fit. I wore it finally and I decided to pair it with a dressy top to take away from that simple look. Now that I see the pictures I don’t like the skirt on me at all.  I don’t know if it’s the actually skirt or if maxi skirts just aren’t for me I mean I am only 5’2 J. Has that ever happened to you, when you like a trend but it doesn’t work for you?

Has visto una tendencia o un look que te llama la atención Y no puedes esperar a probar? Bueno, así me sentía de la tendencia de las maxi faldas. Primero deja les digo que yo amo lo vestidos maxi son mi traje favorito de los fines de semana. Así que cuando vi las faldas apareciendo por todas partes estaba un poco excitada. Cada vez que iba a la tienda mantuve un ojo abierto para mi falda. Finalmente encontré una que me gusto tuve un tiempo difícil con la forma no se miraba bien la talla M quedaba muy grande y también la S (debería haber sido my signo de no comprar la) pero la compre a pesar de la forma. Ahora que veo las fotos no me gusta la falda para nada.   No sé si es esta falda en particular o si pues la tendencia no es para mí (so solamente 5’2). Esto les ha ocurrido, cuando les gusta una tendencia, pero no funciona para ti?

Lessons learned

I love the feeling that we have the ability to control our attitudes towards what life throws our way. That is why I love Mondays because you can forget everything that happened last week and you can choose to start the week happy.  With that said I learned some really interesting & enlightening lessons last week that I think I should share

1.       Mojitos taste good but they WILL creep up on you!

2.       Friendships require a little maintenance here and there, like everything else you love.

3.       You don’t always get along with every single 1 of your family members and that’s ok.

With that said, Let the week begin!

Me encanta la sensación de que tenemos la capacidad de controlar nuestras actitudes hacia lo que la vida pone en nuestro camino. Es por eso que me encanta lunes porque se puede olvidar todo lo que pasó la semana pasada y se puede elegir para empezar la semana feliz. Dicho esto he aprendido algunas lecciones muy interesantes y esclarecedoras semana pasada que creo que debo compartir

1.    Mojitos tienen buen sabor pero te llegan a escondidas

  

2. Las amistades requieren un mantenimiento poco aquí y allá, como todo lo demás que usted ama.

3. No siempre se lleva bien con todos y cada uno de los miembros de su familia y eso está bien.

Girls just wanna have fun... Literally

Remember a few posts back when I told you I was going to Sacramento to surprise my cousin for her Birthday/Finishing the bar exam, well here a few pictures from that event. We showed up at the convention center just as she was about to complete the exam and there was literally 3,000 people there doing the same. As the people started to exit  the convention center we split up in hopes of locating her (she had no idea) I kept getting unnatural stares from everyone it was as if they knew that I wasn’t there to take the exam maybe it was the sky high cheetah platforms or the major mix of structured arm candy, hmm who knows. The important part is that she was able to spot me considering I was one in 3,000 people wearing nothing less than Pantone’s color of the year Tangerine Tango, Its safe to say maybe I wasn’t so hard to find.  

Recuerdan que algunos puestos atrás  les dije que me iba a Sacramento para sorprender a a mi prima por su cumpleaños / Finalización del examen de la barra? bien aquí unas cuantas fotos de ese evento. llegamos a el centro de convenciones justo cuando estaba a punto de completar el examen y había, literalmente, 3,000 personas que hicieron lo mismo. Cuando la gente empezó a salir nos separamos con la esperanza de localizar la (no tenía ni idea) empese a recivir miradas no naturales de todo el mundo, era como si ellos supieron que yo no estaba allí para tomar el examen quizás fueron los elevadísimos plataformas guepardo o la mezcla de brazo dulces estructurado, hmm quien sabe. La parte importante es que ella si fue capaz de allar me. teniendo en cuenta que yo era uno de cada 3,000 personas que lleva el color del ano de Pantone Tango Tangerine,  es seguro decir que tal vez no soy tan difícil de encontrar.

Church Sunday

I hadn't been to church in a while. It seems like every Saturday I tell myself the same thing, “Tomorrow I’m going to get up early and go to church.” Then I wake up and suddenly have a ton of things that prevent me from going & I tell myself that I next week I’ll go for sure, needless to say it never happens. But it finally happened! I got up on Sunday and said nothing is distracting me today I will go to church (believe me there was plenty of distractions) But after I felt good I knew it was the right thing for me . Especially because I had wanted to wear this Navy pleated dress & I thought it was perfect for church. I paired it with the loafers for a simpler look for church.
