Who Says?

With Labor Day weekend right around the corner I wanted to bring attention to a fashion rule that In my opinion needs to be reevaluated, wearing white after labor day. I started to do some internet research for the sake of my curious mind. I wanted to know where and why this rule came about so I did what any reasonable person would do I googled it & believe it or not I could not find the source of this rule.

One of the reasons that I found that made sense was temperature.  This one is kind of obvious
not much explaining to do. It’s safe to say that we know that white is a cool color and can be worn in the summer to keep us feeling fresh so clearly people tend not refrain from wearing dark colors in the summer simply because they attract sunlight.

Pretty reasonable right? Well some people do not agree. Another explanation that I found had to do with social class, this goes as far back as the 1920’s. We’re all familiar with Resort collections right? (If not click here  well if you had money to go away for the summer to say perhaps a resort you would be considered to be of a higher class and therefore once you returned from your summer vacation it would be appalling to be seen in white ha ha or so imagine.

Regardless of the reasoning behind it (which I don’t think has any logic) or who decided to implement it, I believe white can be worn gracefully all year round, don’t believe look for yourself.

Coco Chanel was known for wearing white year round

 Hope you enjoyed

  4. I agree, I don't wear much white anyway, but it should be worn all year round :)

  5. I agree..In fact I get stressed out when Labor day comes around because there are so many things I haven't had a chance to wear yet that are not big on white shoes so I do get annoyed when I see people wearing white shoes in the fall/winter but they usually have on a sports sweatshirt that is 2 sizes too big as well..

  11. Great blog post dear! I agree with you, white really can be worn all year round. It's the best item that one should have because it basically goes with anything. I think women who wear simple white tops and make it look good with accessories, shoes, and bottoms look great. :) Thanks a lot for your lovely comment on my blog. I'm already following you so I hope you can return the love and follow back <3

  14. I definitely do not follow any of those fashion rules. I think white is one the most classic colors and so chic - we should never feel restricted to only wear it during certain months!! :)
Fully agree with you - great post.

  15. I love winter white! It looks so elegant. White is DEFINITELY not just for warm weather. I love the way you've shown it contrasted with black- it edges up the angelic vibe a little bit. Great post!

  29. That was really interesting to hear the history of the "no white after labor day rule." I agree it is so outdated. Great blog btw :)

  30. Yep and all those looks are great reasons why! So strange how it got started in the first place considering when you think of winter you think of white and snow. To me white in winter is even more pretty!
